Much of the accommodation in Bailey is on working farms where Traditional breeds can be seen such as black cattle and blackface sheep. Otters inhabit the river, deer and badger and red squirrels can be seen the woodlands.

Bailey offers a wide choice of activities. Miles of footpaths, bridleways and forest trails, make it a safe and relaxing place to explore without a car. Special wildflower and nature trails guide you to some of the areas hidden treasures.

Cycle hire is available to follow the Reivers Cycle Route, (a spur of the Coast to Coast cycle route) plus a spur of the Eden Valley Circular cycle route pass through Bailey.

Walking is the best way to appreciate Bailey's peace and quiet ‑ you're more likely to encounter a deer than other walkers. Plus the quiet countryside provides the perfect opportunity to do some serious bird watching undisturbed.

There are well equipped trekking centres in the area providing accompanied trekking and lessons, plus stabling if you want to give your own horse a holiday.

If you feel like trying something more expressive, arts and crafts weekends run throughout the year at nearby Bewcastle.

HOW TO FIND BAILEY HIDEAWAYS

Bailey is hidden away in unspoiled Border Countryside to the north east of Carlisle.

FROM THE NORTH & SOUTH  leave the M6 at junction44, following the A7 to Longtown.

In Longtown, turn right at the Bush Hotel. After about 6 miles, turn right at the Bridge Inn onto the B631 8. Follow this road for about 5.5 miles until the crossroads near Sleetbeck. Turn left into Bailey and enjoy a truly refreshing holiday.
